These terms govern use of the IEM Alerter Discord bot and distributor service (together, the "Project"). By using the Project, you agree to use it lawfully and in accordance with these terms.
The Project is an independent project. It is not related to, endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (IEM), the National Weather Service (NWS), GWES, or any other government agency, weather organization, or data provider.
The Project uses data from GWES, IEM, the NWS, and a few other sources. The use of data from a source does not imply that source's endorsement, approval, or affiliation with the Project. Source code is available at https://git.chrischro.me/iem-alerter/.
The Discord bot is provided through Discord and is subject to Discord's rules and terms. You are responsible for your use of the bot in any guild, channel, or direct message and must have permission to configure it there. Bot alerts are informational and may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable.
The WebSocket distributor provides a live connection for receiving weather data. Subscriptions are session-based and may be cleared when the connection ends. You must provide a valid User-Agent and must not open connections or request subscriptions in a way that abuses or overloads the service.
You may use the Project for its intended purpose: receiving and inspecting weather-related data and alerts. You must not:
We may limit or discontinue access when necessary to protect the Project, its users, upstream services, or infrastructure.
The Project is not an emergency alerting system and is not intended to replace official warnings or instructions. Data may be delayed, incomplete, incorrect, interrupted, or unavailable. For urgent or life-threatening situations, rely on official sources such as the National Weather Service, local emergency management, emergency services, and local broadcast media.
The Project is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee accuracy, timeliness, completeness, availability, compatibility, or uninterrupted operation. We are not responsible for decisions made using Project output or upstream data.
To the extent permitted by law, the maintainers and contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, or for loss arising from use of or inability to use the Project. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
The Project depends on third-party services, including Discord and upstream weather data sources. Your use of those services remains subject to their respective terms and policies.
We may change these terms or discontinue any part of the Project at any time. Continued use after an updated version is published constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We may suspend or terminate access for misuse or to protect the Project and its users.
The source code is available at https://git.chrischro.me/iem-alerter/. The applicable license is provided with the source code. These terms govern use of the hosted services and do not replace the rights and obligations in that license.
